These are paintings from a short camping trip to the Adirondacks in September of 2014 An early frost produced spectacular color - so brilliant in fact that I was overwhelmed. The Mohawk Valley was a delight on the way up and I intend to paint there again. My favorite book as a boy was Drums Along the Mohawk by Walter D. Edmonds (I understand from a local that he is still alive at this writing -2016). And the Erie Canal; ever wonder why it was dug just there? The Mohawk River flows west, right toward Lake Erie -a perfect waterway. Everything else drains into the Hudson basin and down to NYC. I camped in several excellent NY State Parks. The people who run them were friendly and courteous -very helpful.  I remember in hiking the Appalachian Trail that the closer you got to NYC the more 'camped out' sites were. Not so in the Adirondacks; everyone seemed to take pride in what they had. Those who established the Adirondack. Park were geniuses; their foresight has left everyone a wonderful playground
